Fuels Handling Equipment (FHE) Mechanic

About the role

The Fuels Handling Equipment (FHE) Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and adjusting fuel system components at airfield locations, including bulk storage and refueling systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform annual preventive maintenance, inspections, and corrective repairs on pumps, valves, meters, filters, water separators, pipelines, and related equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults in motors, compressors, controls, and fuel distribution hardware.
• Maintain and calibrate gauges, meters, and fuel measurement devices; clean storage tanks and replace components as needed.
• Document inspections, repairs, and parts requisitions; coordinate with vendors and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies, regulations, and company quality standards.

Required profile

• One‑year certificate from a college or technical school with five years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate government vehicles.
• U.S. citizenship required to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
• Ability to read technical manuals, write reports, and communicate effectively with team members and customers.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with pumps, control valves, meters, strainers, filters, water separators, and fuel pipelines.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools such as torque wrenches, bearing pullers, specific gravity scales, bench grinders, hydraulic presses, pipe threading machines, and cutting torches.
• Knowledge of pipefitting, mechanical and hydraulic systems, and safety procedures for handling petroleum fuels and toxic gases.
• Familiarity with computer management systems and Microsoft Excel for inventory and reporting.
